A Sisterhood of Scientists
Community Service
There are many community service opportunities available within SDO. For more information please contact our Academic Outreach Chair at sdo.academicoutreach@gmail.com
or our Community Outreach Chair at sdo.communityoutreach@gmail.com
AWSEM
Sisters of SDO actively participate in the community by mentoring K-12 students in a program called AWSEM (Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Math). Students get hands-on experience in labs with various STEM topics while developing strong relationships with their peers and mentors.
Periodic Table of Cookies
Periodic Table of Cookies is a fundraising event in the winter for sisters of SDO to raise money for OSU STEM Academy. Sisters help with baking cookies that are shaped to look like the periodic table of elements! The accept donations in exchange for a cookie!
Discovery Days
Every academic year, OSU puts together a two day event where primary schools have the opportunity to visit various booths run by OSU clubs on campus. Sisters of SDO can help run activities by volunteering in shifts.
Discovering the Scientist Within
Once a year, OSU hosts a day camp for young girls to advance their interest in the sciences. Various departments on campus host hands-on activities for students to engage in. Sisters of SDO may volunteer to serve as mentors throughout the day.
